The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, www.nexteinstein.org) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable Africa's brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa's future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. The first AIMS c
entre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania. AIMS is preparing to open its 6th Centre in Kigali, Rwanda. The goal of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is to build a pan-African network of 15 centres of excellence across the continent by 2023.

Each AIMS centre provides an intensive and broad education to over 50 African students each year and prepares them for leadership careers in academia, governance and industry. The AIMS educational program relies on top international lecturers who teach in a 24-hour learning environment.

Bilingual Senior Program Manager

Reporting to the Executive Vice-President, you will work both independently and collaboratively with the program team to build new projects, concepts and proposals to assist the network in meeting its strategic goals.

As the Bilingual Senior Program Manager, you will work with a multicultural team to develop and deliver projects, overseeing a new business development portfolio for programs ranging from $100K to $100M USD. You will also work in collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) team to develop tools and approaches to collect, analyze and disseminate monitoring data on these programs, and prepare timely stakeholder reports, including quarterly and biannual reports (narrative and financial).

This is a full-time opportunity based at the AIMS Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.

Do you have what we need?


  •  
Minimum of a Master’s degree in international development, project management or related social sciences;


  •  
Minimum of seven (7) years’ professional experience in program management, including managing budgets for complex programs;


  •  
Fully bilingual in both English and French, both oral and written – excellent writing skills encompassing clear synthesis and presentation of ideas and concepts, and excellent facilitation, communication and presentation skills;


  •  
Demonstrable track record of writing winning project proposals in a non-profit setting;


  •  
Experience and understanding of the requirements for using and working with international donor funding, e.g. DFID, IDRC, USAID, etc.;


  •  
Ability to set and achieve clear objectives and deadlines;


  •  
Ability to make decisions and employ good judgment;


  •  
Flexible, intellectually curious and creative;


  •  
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work in multicultural teams;


  •  
Ability to manage and develop budgets;


  •  
Appreciation of/training in gender equity and equality will be important;


  •  
A good understanding of the key trends and emerging issues in the fields of education, especially Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and youth development in Africa;


  •  
Results driven and motivated by a high sense of performance excellence and a sense of urgency; and


  •  
Self-sufficient in a Windows environment, using MS Office and select Internet applications (Google Docs, Dropbox, Skype).
