The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, www.nexteinstein.org) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable Africa's brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa's future sci
entific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. The first AIMS centre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania. AIMS is preparing to open its 6th Centre in Kigali, Rwanda. The goal of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is to build a pan-African network of 15 centres of excellence across the continent by 2023.
Each AIMS centre provides an intensive and broad education to over 50 African students each year and prepares them for leadership careers in academia, governance and industry. The AIMS educational program relies on top international lecturers who teach in a 24-hour learning environment.

Managing Director, NEF
Reporting to the NEF International Steering Committee and working in close collaboration with the AIMS network leadership, the Next Einstein Forum Managing Director will be responsible for leading and building the NEF into a successful forum stemming from the successful launch of the first edition of the NEF Global Gathering in Senegal in March 2016. The Managing Director will be responsible for carrying out the strategic plans and policies as established by the NEF International Steering Committee and the AIMS International Board of Directors.
This is a Full Time opportunity based at the AIMS Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.
Do you have what we need?
• Graduate level of intellect preferably with a higher degree in a management discipline or a professional qualification.
• A proven record of success in senior level general or commercial management, preferably in a science focus environment.
• Minimum 5 years’ senior level experience of management of people and resources.
• Visionary leadership and effective decision making.
• Political and presentational skills with an appreciation of the demands of conflicting interests and of meeting statutory requirements.
• Excellent communication skills in English, French an asset.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A wide knowledge of non-profit organizations and managing of donor funded projects.
• An understanding of financial management and wider management principles and techniques.
• Familiarity with the political, social, economic, legal and cultural context of working in Africa and ability and willingness to travel within and out of Africa.
• Self-sufficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and savvy with web-based applications (Dropbox, Google, Skype).
• Ability and willingness to travel within and out of Africa, for periodic extended in-country stays as needed.
