The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable Africa's brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa's future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. Vice President & Chief Financial Officer!
In this role and reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (VP & CFO) is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the AIMS Network, including the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve the network’s assets and report accurate financial results.
As a seasoned executive, the VP & CFO will actively contribute to strategic and operational planning; participate in making key operational decisions as a member of the senior leadership team; oversee the financial operations at a global, centre and chapter level and will ensure the necessary control mechanisms are in place to manage and mitigate known and potential risks.
This is a full-time opportunity based at the Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.
Do you have what we need?
· Master's degree in accounting, finance or business administration, or equivalent business experience; preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance
· Bachelors in finance, administration, accounting or related field
· Fully credentialed CPA/CA, with a minimum of 10 years working experience in senior finance roles with responsibility for operations, contracts/ grants management and administration
· 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major NGO, company or division of a large corporation
· Experience in partnering with an executive team
· Proven expertise in finance, accounting and auditing, including automated financial systems, as well as results-oriented grants management, financial planning, monitoring of grant compliance and management and establishment of internal controls
· Proven ability to manage, motivate, train and mentor staff at all levels and create a positive team environment
  • Experience working with complex programs involving short deadlines, multiple tasks, in coordination with multiple partners, to achieve expected results
  • Outstanding attention to details and exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent diplomatic, interpersonal, communications and presentation skills
  • Strong verbal and written English language skills; French a desirable asset
  • Strong computer skills in accounting software systems and Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Familiarity with the political, social, economic and cultural context of working in Africa
  • Willing and able to travel within and outside of Africa, as needed
