FXB Rwanda is a Harvard-affiliated local NGO operating in 10 Districts of Rwanda. FXB is the leading implementing partner of a research initiative, Strong Families “SugiraMuryango.” Which focuses on home-visiting to promote early childhood development (ECD) for families living in extreme poverty. FXB Rwanda is recruiting two (2) competent and dynamic nationals to fill the position of Project Officer.

POSITION:Project Officer
PERIOD: One year, potentially renewable
REPORTING TO:SugiraMuryango Program Manager
LOCATION: Kigali with field travel
SugiraMuryango is a Family Strengthening Intervention (FSI) researchinitiative designed for families living in extreme poverty. It is a preventative, family-based model that uses home visiting and active coaching to encourage positive parent-child interactions, while discouraging violence against children. This intervention will be examined via a randomized control trial to test the impact on children’s overall ECD when the intervention is delivered by lay community based volunteers.
The Project Officer will be part of a 7- person supervision team and will report to the SugiraMuryango Program Manager.
  • Conduct surveys in Kinyarwanda interacting with children of all ages and their caregivers and collect data using Adroid tablets;
  • Provide feedback on questionnaires, surveys, and other data collection instruments through critical analysis;
  • Perform basic translationsbetween English andKinyarwanda;
  • Transcribe audio files to English;
  • Write up reports and present findings to the FSI team and colleagues at FXB;
  • Provide supervision to community based volunteers located in various field sites;
  • Participate in research meetings and trainings asnecessary;
  • Participate in supervision trainings and present cases from clinical supervision notes;
  • Perform additional administrative duties asrequired.
  • Uphold the highest ethical and scientific standards in the practice ofresearch.
  • Minimum Bachelor’sdegree (preferred psychology, social science or related fields);
  • Excellent Kinyarwanda and English written and verbal communicationskills;
  • Ethical sensitivity and strong judgment in working with vulnerable households;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email (gmailpreferred);
  • Willing to work with a diverse group of team members andindependently;
  • Self-directed, reliable and hardworking;
  • Respect for and comfort working with vulnerable households;
  • Ability to live and work in Kigali,Rwanda with periodic travel to the field (approximately 30% travel);
  • Comfort in extensive community-based data collection (fieldwork);
  • Comfort in supervising and mentoring community based volunteers to deliver technical intervention.
