POSITION: Clinical Care Specialist
In collaboration with Ruli District Hospital a
nd its associated health centers, The Ihangane Project launched our innovative Nutrition for HIV-Exposed Infants (NHI) Program in 2013 to increase implementation of Ministry of Health protocols for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV and to reach our impact goals of eliminating HIV and malnutrition in this high-risk population of children. Since this time, mother-to-child HIV transmission has dropped to zero and malnutrition rates have dropped by over 60%. Our patient-centered, healthcare worker-driven Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program is the cornerstone of this successful initiative.
We are now recruiting for a Clinical Care Specialist who will provide mentorship to the existing NHI program, facilitate expansion of the NHI program to additional catchment areas, and support adoption of our unique CQI principles for all health care provided at health facilities. The Clinical Care Specialist will provide her or his expertise and mentorship support to local health care workers and the community members they serve, while also acting as a liaison between The Ihangane Project, health care workers, patients, and the Ministry of Health.
Clinical Care Specialist Role and Responsibilities:
  • Provide ongoing support to our flagship initiative, Nutrition for HIV-Exposed Infants (NHI) Clinical Program while expanding lessons learned to additional areas of clinical care
  • Design, implement and monitor the effectiveness of the NHI Program expansion to the other areas beyond Ruli District Hospital catchment area. S/he will be leading the NHI teams across all areas and monitoring their performance for compliance for established program expectations.
  • Work alongside health center staff to design, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of our CQI program expansion to include all health center health care activities- including, but not limited to, Family Planning, Maternal Child Health, Immunizations, Tuberculosis, Non-Communicable Diseases, HIV, and Nutrition.
  • Provide trainings and technical assistance for implementation of Ministry of Health (MoH) protocols. This includes, but is not limited to, protocols for Maternal & Child Health, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV and Nutrition.
  • Efficiently coordinate program activities; includes, but not limited to,Observational Checklists, Data Collection, Collaborative Meetings andImpact Assessments.
  • Provide mentorship to Health Centers as they plan and implement their Quality Improvement cycles. Ensure program sustainability through QI Steering Committees and Nursing Teams engagement and ownership of Program activities in all Health Centers the program operates in.
  • Responsible for Program monthly-quarterly - annual planning -reporting - budgeting processes, and shares them with TIP CD and TIP CEO.
  • Emphasize on TIP Philosophy &Methodology and make sure they are both reflected in all actions taken to reach program impact.
  • Work as a liaison between The Ihangane Project and both MoH and MoH related departments.
  • Provide clinical, technical and translation related support/guidance and expert advice about NHI Program to International volunteers who assist NHI program.
  • Serve as a clinical care expert representative for TIP, sharing implementation science best practices that we have identified through our work in Ruli.
  • Coordinate all clinical practices and inputs for TIP Center of Excellence, manage and facilitate their implementation and success.
  • Provide NHI Program related information/data to support research, reports writing, other publications as well as Grants reports.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine.
  • Background or training in Public Health, Nutrition, HIV or Epidemiology.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in clinical care services.
  • Experience in Research, Monitoring and Evaluation and preferably in project management. Experience and/or knowledge in Quality Improvement a plus!
  • Deep desire to learn and a willingness to learn from anyone regardless of socioeconomic level.
  • Effective communication with all TIP stakeholders to foster trust and relationship building which strengthen sustainable and effective program impact. This can happen by telephone, in written form, e-mail, presentation or in person.
  • Interpersonal skills, especially with other TIP Project Leads, Fellows and Interns.
  • Empathetic problem solver.
  • Ability to both work independently and in a team, meeting deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Computer literate & skilled navigating through multiple screens. Knowledge of Excel.
  • Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Patience and leadership skills.
  • Organizational and prioritizing work skills.
  • Ability to realistically determine quality and quantity needed for different activities.
  • Willingness to occasionally work during the evening hours.
