10 PhD Fellowships in Social Sciences at Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) in Italy



The Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) offers 10 PhD fellowships in “Urban Studies and Regional Science” for the academic year 2017/18.
The GSSI is an international PhD school and a center for advanced studies in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and Social Sciences, located in L’Aquila (Italy).
It was founded in 2012 as Center for Advanced Studies of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and then established in March 2016 as a School of Advanced Studies providing post-graduate education. The GSSI ai
ms to create a new center of scientific excellence in L’Aquila fostering the skills and highly specialized structures already present in the area, such as the Gran Sasso National Laboratories of the INFN and the University of L’Aquila, facilitating the attraction of high-level resources in the fields of natural and social sciences.
The aim of the PhD in Urban Studies and Regional Science is to address issues related to local and regional development. The methodological perspective of research and teaching is multidisciplinary, combining regional and urban economics, economic and human geography, spatial planning and sociology.
Places/fellowships: 10
The fellowships are awarded for three years and their yearly amount is € 16.159,91 gross. All PhD students have free accommodation at the GSSI facilities and use of the canteen. The application must be submitted through the online form available at www.gssi.it/phd/ by 31st May 2017 at 6 pm (Italian time zone). Activities start on November 1st 2017.
