Project Background: EDC is currently implementing the AkaziKanoze 2 (AK2) project, financed by The MasterCard Foundation has been running since 2014. AK2 aims to build on AkaziKanoze’s (2009 – 2016) previous work with out-of-school youth by assisting Rwandan schools, government offices, employers and communities to institutionalize work readiness and transition to work programming within Rwanda’s secondary education system. AK2 targets over 20,000 students and 600 teachers in general secondary schools and vocational technical schools.
The AK2 program is implemented in various districts with partnership from different stakeholders, including district officials, private sector companies, parents, and school managers; which meet on a regular basis under the District Steering Committees, to share information on progress, successes, and address challenges in the AkaziKanoze 2 in their respective districts.
Position Summary
The Technical Programs Assistant assists in the implementation of various AkaziKanoze 2 technical activities, both administrative and/or technical.  S/he assists in the coordination of various meetings, workshops and trainings in the planning, implementation, and follow-on cycle.  S/he participates in and documents various meetings and events as assigned by the supervisor. The Technical Programs Assistant assists in tracking the progress of the technical programs, and in the documentation and dissemination of the findings by conducting various field trips and producing reports. The Technical Programs Assistantreports to the Technical Programs Manager. This position is located in Kigali, Rwanda and will require periodic travel to rural areas.
Essential functions include [but are not limited to]Assist the Technical Programs Manager in his/her responsibility with all aspects of the management of the programs including maintaining effective administrative and communication systems;
  • Participate in and document District Steering Committees’ meetings in all AkaziKanoze 2 implementing districts;
  • Assist in the organization and coordination of the AkaziKanoze 2 Awards event;
  • Coordinate and lead monitoring field trips and provide timely field trip reports;
  • Participate in monthly meetings with implementing partners;
  • Provide logistical support and coordination of workshops, trainings and meetings;
  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of project resources;
  • Work closely with the Communications Manager to document success stories from the different technical activities;
  • Assist in M&E tools administration and data collection, if required;
  • Participate in and contribute to project reflection sessions and produce related reports, as required;
  • Assist the Technical Programs Manager in documenting and disseminating the project implementation progress, best practices and lessons learned;
  • Provide feedback on key issues that require special attention to the Technical Programs Manager and senior management;
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Administrative Sciences, Social Sciences, or Mass Communication.
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant experience
  • Introductory experience in program management or administration
  • Demonstrated competence in assessing priorities and managing a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment;
  • Proven ability to take initiative and anticipate needs
  • Excellent organization and coordination skills, and superior attention to detail
  • Excellent written skills
  • Strong computer skills and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience communicating with a variety of audiences and demonstrated ease of public speaking
  • Ability to manage time, handle pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated maturity, flexibility, judgement, and diplomacy
  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda
An ideal candidate will have:
  • Knowledge of French
  • Academic background and/or professional interest in building public private partnerships
  • Academic background and/or professional interest in youth or education programming
  • Previous experience working for an NGO
