Job Title: Director of Grants
Supervisor: Chief Finance Officer
Location: Kigali Office with frequent travels to other sites
Job Purpose
The Director of Grants together with
Chief Finance Officer will be responsible for strengthening the grants department. Together with the deputy executive director he/she will assist in aligning PIH strategic objectives to new opportunities. Together with the external relations department and other relevant programs he/she will contribute to development of proposals for funding opportunities. He will ensure accurate financial reporting and procedural compliance on all grants.
The following are the key job responsibilities

  • Work closely with PIH Executive Director to determine strategic programs and strategic funding opportunities which are consistent with the strategic direction, goals and objectives of PIH
  • Contribute towards development of PIH Strategic Plan
  • Develop and implement short and long term resource development plans and strategies for strengthening of PIH programs and identify strategies for expansion of the programs into new strategic directions.
  • Together with the external relation department seek opportunities to generation resources.
  • Work with the external relations department to identifying trends and opportunities for strategic partnerships, collaborations and resource generation
  • Maintain an electronic database of potential funding government agencies and foundations.
  • Help guide proposal team discussions on design, strategy, technical content, staffing, partners, and budgets, in consultancy with IMB program leadership
  • Ensure that proposals submitted to funders meet high quality standards and are in consonant with funder requirements in Requests for Proposals.
  • Support negotiation of awards, donor/partner communication for new awards, and transition of awards to the grant management team.
  • Coordinate closely with Boston-based development and program staff and IMB program staff to develop public sector proposals, including assisting with writing, editing, review, timeline and process management, and timely submission in accordance with funder requirements
  • Together with the Boston-based public sector development team, monitor in-country public sector donor climate, including donor priorities, and research public sector donor prospects.
  • Maintain knowledge of program priorities in order to identify prospects and craft compelling proposals
  • Coordinate advanced preparation for upcoming opportunities (i.e., intelligence gathering, design prep)
  • Work closely with Grants and Finance team to develop budgets to meet funder budgeting requirements and formats in addition to ensuring overhead cost recoveries for PIH
  • Supervise the Grants team to ensure on time delivery of funder requirements, regularly tracking and reporting according to funder specific deliverables.
  • Ensure the development and continuous updating of a grants register to track proposals in development, submitted, pre award, post award and closed grants.
  • Supervise sub granting processes
Qualification, Knowledge and Skills & Work Experience

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree with specialization in Finance or Accounting
  • Strong computer skills especially in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft word and experience in using financial management software’s.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the area of finance or accounting, including a minimum of two years of supervisory experience in a Non­governmental organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Problem Solving & Analytical Skills.
    Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision
