SC Rwanda Country Office seeks to hire qualified, committed and experienced national staff to fill the following position:

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To lead the planning, implementation and monitoring of the Early Literacy and Maths Initiative - ELMI (school readiness) project in sectors of one of two Districts (Gasabo/Ngororero) in collaboration with key partners.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Lead the design of the pre-primary teacher training plan for the early literacy and maths or school readiness skills.
  • Support established accountability and complaints handling mechanisms, under the guidance of the SC Rwanda accountability focal person
  • Sensitize key stakeholders at District and sector level (District authorities, sector authorities, parent committee, community and pre-primary teachers and children about Emergent Literacy and Math Initiative project.
  • Provide ongoing advice and support to Sector and District Authorities, Parents Groups, and pre-primary school teachers to enable them to fulfil their respective roles in implementation of the project; 
  • Conduct regular visits to the pre-primary schools, providing mentoring to teachers on the implementation of early literacy and math concepts and practice in pre-primary schools. 
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly work plans and monthly reports in accordance with the agreed schedules with ECE Coordinator;
  • Initiate and follow-up procurement and distribution of required supplies, in line with Save the Children procedures and in collaboration with the ECE coordinator, Admin and Logistics;
  • Monitor progress of the project against agreed project targets and indicators;
  • Highlight early to ECE Coordinator any potential constraints to implementation of project;
  • Identify and document key lessons learned from the project, including success stories;
  • Represent Save the Children in relevant Sector and District meetings (and national meetings when requested by ECE coordinator).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • University degree in education or social sciences;
  • Experience working with NGOs and Communities;
  • Good knowledge of principles and practice of Early Childhood and Development, experience working in the ECD field preferred;
  • Ability to develop constructive relationships with a wide range of partners, including children, communities and local authorities;
  • Proven ability to deliver projects in line with proposals, budgets and timelines;
  • Experience of facilitating participatory planning and monitoring;
  • Strong analytical skills and creativity;
  • Ability to self-manage and to work effectively with very limited supervision (willingness to work alone in a Sector without office back up support);
  • Willingness to be self-sufficient with regard to transport;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Kinyarwanda and English:  orally and in writing
Desirable
  • Possession of a motorcycle license;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Kinyarwanda and either French or English: orally and in writing
  • Previous experience/exposure to emergent literacy and math concepts and practices
