Rwanda Bridges to Justice (RBJ) is looking for a high calibre candidate to offer services as a consultant for its new project: “Protecting Human Rights Within Rwanda’s Criminal Justice system. Kurengeraubureganzirabw’ikiremwamuntu mu butaberabw’u Rwanda”.
Overall job description:
Working under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Consultant as a Lawyer will assist in implementing the litigationstrategy and be in charge of the Defense Resource Center (DRC). The Lawyer will have responsibility to assist on a wide portfolio of cases on which s/he will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy. The Lawyer will be expected to help assess new cases. The Lawyer will also assist with legal research, drafting of legal pleadings and other related activities. The Lawyer will be highly motivated and excited by the opportunity to be part of a new organisation and to help establish its emerging reputation in the field. The Lawyer will be able to work in a fast-paced environment in which s/he will be expected to produce high-quality work at a consistent rate. The Lawyer may be required to assist in any other tasks/duties as may be required.
Qualifications, skills and experience
Be a qualified lawyer who is admitted to practice law within Rwanda. Possess a back ground experience in legal aid in terms of representing or assisting the marginalised and vulnerable people. Possess an advanced degree law (A Master in laws). Be Fluent in English with excellent writing, editorial and oral advocacy skills. Good knowledge (spoken and written) of French or Kinyarwanda would be an advantage. Ability to work in a small team and to work both independently and with others is key.
Duration of the contract
The consultancy contract will be issued for one year with the possibility of renewal for other two years.
